Going Back in Time with Archive.org

There was an article that I wanted to read and unfortunately, the site that it was on is no longer up. As I consumed some more holiday treats, I remembered archive.org. There, I was able to input the URL and voila! The article popped up.

I ended up becoming quite nostalgic and did a search on some of the web properties I used to operate.

Just in case your curiosity is getting the better of you, here they are:

Happy Chrismahanukwanzakah

I’d like to take the time to wish you all a Happy Chrismahanukwanzakah. What is Chrismahanukwanzakah? It’s a holiday that celebrates the joys of Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, elves - even Pagans and agnostics - all wrapped into one day.

Mathew Ingram calls it ChristmaHanuKwanzivus - a blending of Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa and Festivus. I kind of like his interpretation better. Like him, I’ll spend the day eating, sleeping and eating some more. I may even get some much needed content for the Papa Zeek podcast because I’ll be spending the evening with a whole wack of family, including the star of the podcast (my dad).

I’m also going to tune in to my favourite Christmas movies. They are:

  • National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (too funny)
  • A Christmas Story (too funny)
  • Trailer Park Boys’ Christmas Special (a TV special that’s way funny)

I’m also going to get my hands on Bad Santa and Elf as well and see if they’re worthy enough to add to my favourite Christmas movies list.

Any other movies I should watch?

Blame Canada for Radio’s 100-Year Birthday

Radio celebrates its 100-year birthday today. On December 24, 1906, a Canadian by the name of Reginald Fessenden (seen on left - photo courtesy of Wikipedia) made the world’s first radio voice broadcast from Marshfield, Massachusetts. Born in the province of Quebec, Reginald was able to transmit voice signals over the Atlantic without the use of wires or morse code.

The question is - will radio stay on to see another 100-years? It will, but in a different form. Although I won’t be around that long to see what radio will become, there’s no denying that we’re at the inflection point for radio right now.

What to Get Your Favourite Podcaster for Christmas

Now, if you’re struggling to figure out what to buy your favourite podcaster this Christmas, look no further than my handy list below. I own (or have used) all of the products below and can recommend them with 5 stars.

Adobe Audition

Since graduating from Audacity to Audition, I’ve noticed a marked increase in the quality of my audio files. If you’ve been producing podcasts for a while and you’re looking for a more robust audio editing software, get Audition.

I’ll warn you, there’s a steep learning curve as it’s not as intuitive as Audacity, but with the right tutorials and a bit of mucking around, you’ll get the hang of this awesome editing software.

Mac Book Pro

Need I say more? It has everything a podcaster needs. Everything. I touched it. Once. I’ll just wallow in self pity as I count my loonies one-by-one to see if I can finally get my hands on one of these babies.

Podcamp in Second Life - Oh Boy!

If my trials in Second Life weren’t bad enough, it turns out that there’s a Podcamp being organized in Second Life (SL) for the end of January.

Oh boy!

While I’m still not a fan of Second Life due to the technical difficulties (yes, I’m blaming the tool as - of course - it had nothing to do with me), I’ll attend Podcamp Second Life to see if I can get to know SL a little bit better.

And while you’re at it, why don’t sign up to attend Podcamp Toronto taking place at Ryerson University on February 24-25, 2007?

Sage Advice from Papa Zeek

I just spoke to my dad. He asked me what I was doing and I told him that I’m making plans to take over the world. To which he said:

“Don’t bother about that. It’s too big.”

Sage advice from the patriarch. Which reminds me - I’ve got to get some interviews with my dad to update the Papa Zeek podcast over the holidays.

Time’s Person of the Year - You

Every year, Time Magazine selects a person of the year. For 2006, Time’s person of the year is you. Yes, you. Why? Find out by reading their article.

Thank you Time Magazine.

Simpsons & Battlestar Galactica Meet

I’m dedicating Friday’s to posting about anything I want that’s not podcast related. So, I’m calling it my Anything I Want to Post About Fridays, or AIWPAF for short.

Thanks to Rob Clark, he pointed me to this blog post about the Simpsonization of the Battlestar Galactica characters. As Rob put it, only a fan of both shows can appreciate this work of art.

CaseCamp on Second Life - My Boston Trip Relived Virtually

I’m not sure if I blogged about my 13-hour drive to Boston when I attended Podcamp back in September. Well, if I didn’t, just a quick narrative that the drive from Toronto to Boston should’ve taken 9-hours through 1 province (Ontario) and 2 states (New York & Mass).

So why did I see New York state, Pennsylvania, Conneticut and Mass in a span of 13-hours? Don’t ask…

Well, that’s how I felt trying to navigate through Second Life where Toronto’s CaseCamp was held last night. Here’s my story.
