My Podcasts Are Wicked Mint

So, I’m chatting with Julien over Google Chat when he points me to Chris Penn’s transcript about a conversation he had with a visitor to his site. You can read it in full here.

My favourite part?

When Chris suggested the visitor apply for scholarships, the person was quite confident about his grades, saying:

“Ya dude scholarships would be awesome. My grades are like wicked mint right now.”

To which Chris replied:

“I assume by that you mean good, and not minty in the sense of fresh breath.”

Okay, so if wicked mint means good, that means whenever a prospect asks me about my podcasting skills, I can say:

“My podcast strategies are wicked mint.”

Jules and Chris, thanks for the laugh and for some new street lingo to add to my vocabulary.

Top 10 Savvy Women in Podcasting, Colette Vogele

If you want a legal perspective on podcasting, Colette Vogele is the person you need. Head of her own law firm based in California called Vogele & Associates, Colette advises companies on how to protect their intellectual property in the new media and technology space.

Colette is often seen speaking at events about the impact of podcasting on law (and vice versa), most recently at Podcamp West and the Podcast & Portable Media Expo. She co-authored the Podcasting Legal Guide, a much needed resource that provides advice on how to use and distribute content legally using a podcast. This guide has become the Bible to help podcast producers know what they can and can’t include in a podcast, especially if they have a simple question and require a simple response.

While her work keeps her mainly on the West coast, she recently admitted that she’s passionate about what this medium has to offer and is looking forward to be the podcasting industry’s “legal star.” Her own podcast is in the works and in the meantime, you can catch up with her podcasting thoughts on her blog.

Colette is one of my picks as a Top 10 savvy woman in podcasting in 2006.

Podcast Music Intros Are Like Painting a Canvas

As I craft together music intros for podcasts, I realize more and more that you just can’t slap a voice over music and be done with it.

You have to choose the right music to fit the mood of the podcast. You have to choose the right voice. And on top of that, you have to place the voice-only track at precisely the right spot, on the right beat so that it sounds as if it’s part of the song.

Not easy.

Typically, the voice intro is done without the music. At least that’s been my experience and I prefer it this way.

The reason?

Yet Another Tired List Courtesy of Entrepreneur.com

I almost coughed up my coffee through my nose when I read Entrepreneur.com’s Top 10 Marketing Trends to watch in 2007. Three of the 10 trends were listed under Hot Online Trends and what were they?

  • Web conferencing
  • Online research
  • Local search

That’s the reason why I nearly didn’t ingest my coffee the right way this morning. Web conferencing is so 1999, while I don’t believe that local search will be hot. And I can’t believe that online research is considered a hot trend for 2007. I’ve been doing online research ever since I went online in 1994, so how can this be hot?

Why didn’t podcasting make the list? Or even blogs? Or even 3-D marketing through Second Life? Am I missing something here?

Meshcasts are Meshilicious, Playa

The Meshcasts (Rob’s term) are up on the Mesh blog. Thanks to Uncle Seth for that wonderful song called To Be An Angel that I used in both the intro and outro.

I was having a devil of a time trying to find something that could capture the energy of Mesh and then I stumbled upon that song.

As I perused a few blogs that made mention of the Meshcasts, I couldn’t help but notice a miscegenation of the word Mesh with other Web 2.0 terms. Meshcast is just one, so let’s have fun with this.

Here are a few of mine:
