I Have Given Birth (To a Book)

In January 2007, I was impregnated with a book deal. From that point on, I nurtured this little bundle of joy so it could take on a life of its own. I was elated with the knowledge that something big was going to grow. At every turn, I saw evidence of its growth - a chapter here, a paragraph there.

I started to have cravings for Kit Kat at odd hours of the day. I gorged on some of the most unhealthiest foods, everything from French fries to chocolate dip donuts from Tim Hortons to McDonalds. I ate as much as I could to feed what was growing on my computer screen.

There were many all nighters. Some nights, I couldn’t sleep because I was restless. The bulge of ideas kept getting in the way. I had to relieve myself by writing a chapter at 3am just to get any sleep.

Yahoo Podcast Directory - Stop Promoting It

A year ago, one of my clients started podcasting. I recommended a small sample of podcast directories to submit to and one of them was Yahoo Podcasts. I just loved its simple, yet pretty design and was pleased that another major player was stepping into the podcasting limelight.

Yet, after a year, I have now stopped recommending Yahoo Podcasts. Why? It’s been neglected by Yahoo itself. Some feeds haven’t been updated in its directory in months, even though the podcaster has been producing new episodes every week.

Jack Van Impe and Larry King Makes Podcasting Relevant to Mom

Get this. I’ve been podcasting since late 2005. I even have a book coming out on podcasting. Despite having a podcasting expert in her own home, my mother took an interest in podcasting only this past week. Here’s how the conversation went.

“Leesa, I want an iPod.”

“Why?”

“Because Larry King said I can get his podcast that way.”

“Oh.”

“And Jack Van Impe has a podcast. So does Anderson Cooper.”

“Okay Mom.”

“So, how do I get the podcast on the iPod?”

“Easy. I’ll get you set up and show you what to do.”

“Oh good. How much does the iPod cost?”

“As little as $100 to as much as $400. You know, you can get Larry King’s podcast right on your computer. You know that, right?”

“Yes, but I want an iPod.”

Podcasting has become relevant to my mom, not because her daughter does this thing for a living, but because Larry King tells her so every night. Go figure.

Waves, Books and Cottages - The Great Canadian Adventure

Last week, I took a much deserved 5-day holiday. On Wednesday morning, I headed north of Toronto to spend 2-days at a friend’s cottage in the Kawarthas. Then on Friday morning, I went to the shores of Lake Erie to bask in the warm sunshine. I went to church on Saturday, a BBQ on Sunday, then spent more time in the sun on holiday Monday at Harbourfront taking in the sights and sounds of Caribana inspired gospel music.

Just glorious! An amazing way to unwind and relax. No computers, no Internet, nothing technical. Just sun and fun for 5-days. I learned many things about the world around me while away from the computer and I want to share them with you.
