Tapes and Film are Still a Reality

Wednesday morning, I spent 3-hours getting a whole bunch of stuff done at the doctor’s office. Nothing serious, just getting a physical done after not stepping into a doctor’s office since 2004.

I had to get some other work done and had a conversation with the technician. I noticed that there were alot of VHS tapes on the bookshelf behind us.

So I asked:

“What’s up with all the old tapes?”

To which she said:

“We send everything over on tapes and film.”

My god! Tapes and film? So then I asked:

“You mean, nothing is digitized?”

To which she said:

“Only one clinic in all of Mississauga has the digital machine. They copy the images to CD, but for everyone else, we just use tapes and film.”

Your Goals & Audience Dictate Your Podcast Length

“The one sure way to know something someone tells you about podcasting is bullshit is that they are convinced that they can’t be wrong.” The most experienced podcast experts know only slightly more than the least experienced. If you march to their beat too closely, you’ll never invent your own dance moves.”

Said by the ever so clever contrarian, Dave Slusher on his blog recently. He was commenting on podcast length, frequency and formats after listening to someone else say that no podcast should be longer than 10-minutes.

I no longer believe that there are any rigid rules you need to follow when it comes to podcast length and frequency. I commented on podcast frequency recently, saying that being infrequent with new podcast episodes will actually encourage more people to subscribe.

Fine Time for a Podcasting Association

Interesting debate happening in regards to the Marie Claire podcast. There’s seems to be very little difference between an advertorial and editorial in their podcast.

I had a short freelance journalist career while in university which continued a couple years after graduation. I even took a few night courses at Ryerson University to learn about the magazine publishing process.

The Brokeback Podcaster

The Brokeback Podcaster is a term you’ll find in the introduction of my book. This is the person that adamantly says that you should never make money podcasting, but then complains that they’re tired of doing the editing stuff and wish they could hire someone to do it for them.

They say that money in podcasting is evil, but then complain that they had to stay up until 3 in the morning preparing the next episode of their podcast. Then their partner gets mad at them for staying up late.

I wrote about the brokeback entrepreneur about a year ago. It came out of my frustration with some entrepreneurs who wanted me to bend over backwards, but not compensate me for my time. Or, worst yet, their idea of compensation was to barter a basket of candles and hand lotion. I’m not kidding.

I’m Celebrating a Milestone (Actually 2)

I recently published the 10th episode of my podcast, Podonomics. That’s something to celebrate about, huh? Not just that but I just passed the one year anniversary of launching my award winning blog by the same name.

So I said to myself:

“Self, how could I share my good cheer?”

So I bundled a bunch of my audio recordings together into one package and I’m calling it the Podcasting Success Power Pack. And for the next 24-hours, it’s yours for just $7.

Here’s what’s included in the Podcasting Success Power Pack:
